Report : On a lovely spring morning the Wimbledon men's second team travelled for 3 hours to play against Southgate.
Considering Southgate needed to win to avoid relegation, we anticipated them fielding a stronger side than usual.

Wimbledon started exceptionally well by throwing the ball around, and gaining substantial possession in key areas of the pitch. We were rewarded when Luke Martin finally scored a penalty corner after sloppy defending by a Southgate player who thought he was allowed to trap the ball with the side of his foot.

Against the run of play a penalty stroke was awarded to the home side and Southgate scored to brake our dominating pattern and keep them in the game.
Nathan was called to make a few sharp saves as we got caught on the counter attack after losing the ball cheaply while going forward.
Ten minutes later Southgate, who had more momentum, went ahead through a penalty corner.

The half time break was needed for us, and we got some water and good power food on board. We were able to settle after a few wise and slightly threatening words from Jim Sayer who was captaining the side for the first time this season.

Thanks to our midfield making quick decisive leads back to the defenders, we played better, more patient and 'clever' hockey. Luke added to his goal tally by scoring another corner after the same Southgate defender forgot that you couldn't use the back part of your stick to trap the ball.

Kiwi, Giles, Guy and 'give it to me' Jared bossed the midfield and with solid communicating, positioning, movement and tackling across the park, we were able to complete the comeback and claim a much deserved winner.

The last ten minutes then became a physical battle but we held our nerve and continued to play good looking, slick hockey until the final whistle. Well played boys, good win and great second-half team performance.

Spitz.
