GB star to join Wimbledon

Ben Hawes, who captained the Great Britain team at the Beijing Olympics, is to join us at Wimbledon. Ben has a combined total of 181 caps for Great Britain and England and has scored 43 international goals in an illustrious international career that began in 2002 and has included representing GB at two Olympics.
He has a wealth of experience and his former clubs include Canterbury, Amsterdam H&BC and Surbiton. A defender or midfield player with an eye for goal, Ben’s stick skills are amongst the best in the game.
Ben has also been elected to the BOA Athletes’ Commission and will join the group of 14 athletes advising on the 2012 Olympics.

Director of Hockey Ben Marsden said, “I’ve played with Ben at both club and international level. A renowned match winner, the wealth of experience he brings, of playing at the highest level, will complement the skills and enthusiasm we have in our winning team.”

National League and London Premier League for the Mens 1s & 2s

The Men’s 1st XI will be confidently joining the National League this year. It is hard to believe that only three short seasons ago, we were playing Hampshire/Surrey Division One hockey. Now three consecutive league titles later and we are entering the National League. Preparations are well underway to prepare for the start of the season. See the calendar for training and Summer League.

Wimbledon Hockey continues to take significant steps forward even during the close season. Confirmation has been received from the London league stating the Men's 2XI will be playing in the London Premier League this season. This places them in the highest attainable 2XI league, facing very significant opposition.  The likes of Reading 2, Surbiton 2 and Canterbury 2 are very welcome challenges and further underline the Wimbledon drive for top flight hockey.

Congratulations to all players who helped to contribute to this success.

He has already been doing his homework on the Ladies 1s results last season and has said that his desire and dreams give him the strength and determination to succeed. Initial discussions with Ignasi about his ideas on training suggest that he has every intention of continuing the hard work on fitness that was started last season.
